When should I upgrade from PostMimic Free?

5 min read

Upgrade after voice drafts already work for you and you need more than Free’s post allowance—or more than one profile for a personal brand, team, or clients. Free includes 5 cloud AI posts one-time. That is enough to prove the loop; it is not meant to be a forever calendar for a busy account.

What Free is for

Free is a proof window, not a punishment tier. Use it to answer:

  • Does a draft conditioned on my posts sound more like me than a cold ChatGPT paste?
  • Can I keep brand rules with the profile so I stop retyping “don’t invent stats”?
  • Does platform rewrite (LinkedIn vs X vs Instagram vs Facebook Pages) save real edit time?
  • Am I comfortable reviewing before anything goes live?

During Free you should:

  1. Connect or import enough real posts to train a credible voice
  2. Spend the 5 cloud AI posts on your highest-signal channels—not random experiments that burn the allowance
  3. Human-approve every draft; leave Agent Mode alone until quality is boring
  4. Decide whether one profile is enough for how you actually work

Phone, web, and desktop can each finish a step of that test. The profile and remaining allowance matter more than which screen you used.

Free is not for: running three client brands, a daily multi-platform calendar for months, or assuming unlimited cloud generation. If you need those on day one, you already know Free is a taste—not the plan.

Signals you’ve outgrown Free

Upgrade when friction is operational, not when FOMO hits:

SignalWhat it usually means
You’ve used the 5 cloud AI posts and still want the same loop weeklyAllowance, not curiosity, is the constraint
Drafts sound right and rules are set—you’re blocked on volumeProduct fit is proven; capacity isn’t
You need a second voice (personal + company, or client B)One Free profile isn’t the architecture
Teammates need their own lanes without sharing one chatty prompt historyMulti-profile / seat reality
You’re copy-pasting “almost right” drafts into five tools againYou validated voice, then abandoned the loop

Weak reasons to upgrade early:

  • You haven’t trained on real posts yet
  • You burned five posts on throwaway jokes and never reviewed voice quality
  • You expect AI to invent a brand you never posted
  • You’re comparing sticker prices without finishing the Free proof

Finish the proof first. Paid plans amplify a working loop; they do not invent one.

One profile vs several

One profile fits many solo creators and founders who post as themselves (or one Page/brand) across X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook Pages. Free can show whether that one voice is worth keeping.

Several profiles show up when:

  • Personal brand and company Page must not blend
  • A team separates founders, product, and support tones
  • An agency keeps client voices isolated so Client A never sounds like Client B

If your next honest need is “another voice,” that is an upgrade signal—even if you still have one unused Free post left. Allowance and profile count are different dimensions. Running out of posts with one perfect voice is not the same problem as needing three voices tomorrow.

Keep native platforms clear: today that means X, LinkedIn, Facebook Pages, and Instagram for connect/publish paths. Drafting copy shaped for other networks and pasting out is fine; don’t wait on a plan change for a network that isn’t a native connect yet.

Agency and high-volume cases

Agencies and busy in-house teams outgrow Free for predictable reasons:

  • Volume — many clients × many platforms × weekly cadence exceeds a one-time 5-post cloud allotment
  • Isolation — each client needs its own voice archive and brand rules
  • Review — humans still approve; the tool must not force everyone through one shared scratchpad
  • Calendar — schedule/publish in the same loop beats clipboard chaos at scale

A sane agency path:

  1. Prove voice quality on one client or internal brand with Free
  2. Document rules that must never ship (claims, politics, competitor names, invented metrics)
  3. Upgrade when you need parallel profiles and ongoing generation—not when a pitch deck asks for “AI”
  4. Keep Agent Mode gated until each voice’s approval rate is high

WordPress Connect users: category mapping still means exact existing category or Uncategorized—plan tier does not change that plugin rule (WP Connect 1.1.1 does not create terms).

Do not invent price comparisons here. Check live pricing on the site when you are ready; this page is about when, not a quote sheet.

Finish Free first

Before you upgrade, run a short checklist:

  1. Archive — enough real posts that a stranger would recognize the voice
  2. Rules — written constraints the model must respect
  3. Platforms — at least two native shapes rewritten from one intent (e.g. LinkedIn + X)
  4. Human pass — you caught something the draft got wrong (good—that’s the point of review)
  5. Decision — you need more posts, more profiles, or both—not “maybe AI is cool”

If step 1–4 failed, upgrading won’t fix training or taste. If they passed and you’re blocked on capacity or multi-voice, upgrade is the honest next step.

Social calendars still need room for timely Grow posts; paid capacity doesn’t mean fill every slot with AI. Leave white space.
